Is it safe to drink from natural water sources in outdoor areas? It may surprise us to realize that apart from man-made pollutants there are potentially harmful microorganisms: bacteria, viruses, cysts, parasites, fungi and protozoa, often termed "pathogens" present in outdoor water sources, even in remote areas. Invisible in "clear" water, they're measured in particle sizes described as microns, or even smaller nanometres - there are 1000 nanometres in 1 micron , or, micrometre.

What do the LIFESAVER products remove and how does it work?

LIFESAVER® Bottles utilize a patented, high-tech filter and ingenious, self-contained pump to purify water using hydrophilic hollow fiber tubes to filter all microbiological contaminates from water. Additionally, the purified water is streamed through an activated carbon filter, reducing a broad spectrum of chemical residues including: pesticides, endocrine disrupting compounds, medical residues, and heavy metals such as lead and copper. Foul taste and odor commonly found in water, such as chlorine and sulfur are removed too and the result is clean, sterile water. Filter life and is directly related to the turbidity of water passed through the filter cartridge. 
LIFESAVER bottle removes all micro-biological contamination from water. Both LIFESAVER products protect against cryptosporidium and cholera and testing verifies that even the smallest of viruses were removed. 
The smallest bacteria measures 200NM (nanometres) whilst the smallest virus measures about 25 nanometres. The ultra filtration membranes in the LIFESAVER Ultra-Filtration cartridge have pore sizes of only 15 nanometres, this means that no contamination can pass through into the drinking water. 
The pump creates pressure within the bottle which forces water through the membranes leaving the dirt and contamination on the other side of the membranes.
